Home of the Irish
As the large iconic green shamrock of our school emblem implies, Blessed Sacrament School is the HOME OF THE IRISH.
Due in large part to the ancestral heritage of parishioners and students in its early years, and given that the school was begun by the Sisters of Mercy whose ancestral roots reach back to their beginnings in Ireland in 1821, and combined with the fact that the parish has been historically supported and served by Irish-born priests (including Monsignor Daniel J. Burke, current Bishop of the Savannah Diocese J. Kevin Boland, and our current Pastor, Jeremiah J. McCarthy), Blessed Sacrament has been synonymously “Irish” as long as anyone can remember.
