Blessed Sacrament School to celebrate International Walk to School Month

Savannah, GA -- October 2010 – Blessed Sacrament School will be joining schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Month on October 8, 2010.

The event will begin at 7:20 a.m. with kids, and parents walking from “The Mall” at Atlantic Avenue and 44th Street.  Walkers will arrive at the school at 7:50. Blessed Sacrament School is located at 1003 East Victory Drive (the front door faces 44th Street, near Chatham Crescent, down the block from Waters Avenue).

In the U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The event is being organized by Blessed Sacrament School’s Fresh Outlook Committee, which focuses promoting good nutrition and exercise resulting in healthy minds, bodies and spirits for students, families, staff and faculty.

Blessed Sacrament School was founded in 1939 with two classrooms and three sisters of Mercy as the first faculty. Today there are two sections of each grade level from Pre-K through 8th grades with a current enrollment of approximately 425 students. The school offers a rigorous, faith-based academic program and maintains small class sizes. Blessed Sacrament is part of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah and has received accreditation by both SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and FCC (Florida Catholic Conference).
