Blessed Sacrament School students put on Renaissance Festival

Shakespeare, DaVinci are fun features of annual event

(SAVANNAH) March 31, 2010 – Blessed Sacrament School students enjoyed feasting and merriment Renaissance style as they sampled several fun-filled and educational activity stations at their annual Renaissance Festival.

Students sampled the many stations: the Royal Joust, the Royal Feast (with court jesters and other entertainment), a Punch and Judy puppet show, arm wrestling, Renaissance hair braiding, gypsies and fortune telling, garlands and calligraphy, a real Renaissance dance, a magic show, and scenes from Romeo and Juliet.

They learned about Leonardo DaVinci (math and art), wrote sonnets, met St. Francis of Assisi, sampled exotic spices – and threw “rotten tomatoes” (really Nerf balls) at their esteemed principal and vice-principal! The teachers putting the event together are Leigh Stenger, Julia DeLoach, and Ethel Tuttle.

Blessed Sacrament School is located at 1003 East Victory Drive.

Blessed Sacrament School was founded in 1939 with two classrooms and three sisters of Mercy as the first faculty. Today there are two sections of each grade level from Pre-K through 8th grades with a current enrollment of approximately 425 students. The school offers a rigorous, faith-based academic program and maintains small class sizes. Blessed Sacrament is part of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah and has received accreditation by both SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and FCC (Florida Catholic Conference).
