THOSE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASONS

VARSITY FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL TEAMS SIMULTANEOUSLY WIN SPAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

As the undefeated Mighty Irish Varsity Football team was winning its SPAL Championship Game at Daffin Park, the Lady Irish Volleyball team was securing their title game at Hancock's gym.

In a fierce gridiron battle under the lights, the Irish overcame an early seige by the St. James Chargers, and battled back in the second half to win the championship game 20 to 8.

At the same time and just a few miles away, the Lady Irish overcame a hard fought battle with Effingham Christian Academy to win their own SPAL Championship.  In a best of five game match, the BSS girls took the first two games, lost the third, and won the fourth 25-23.

Congratulations to our BSS athletes and their coaches on these hard fought victories,  and to both their respective competitor teams for their strong and valiant efforts.

Irish JV Mount Late Comeback Win

Irish JV Mount Late Comback Win SPAL Title 22-14 Over Savannah Christian

The Blessed Sacrament Irish won 22 - 14 in dramatic fashion. Trailing 8 to 0 just before half the Irish came down the field in 40 seconds as #36 John Ryan Macdonald caught three successive passes from #20 Nick Iannone and then Travis Blackshear #6 scored on a screen pass from #20 Nick Iannone to tie game at 8 at the half. The Raiders scored on the opening drive of the second half, but the Irish answered and drove the ball down the field culminating with a swing pass that Blackshear took just inside the pylon for a tie of 14 to 14. The Irish threatened again late in the 4th quarter but the drive stalled on the Raider 15. With just over a minute to play in the game Travis Blackshear sacked the Raider quarterback causing a fumble and Mikey Largis #25 picked up the fumble and rumbled 10 yards for the winning touchdown.

It was truly a team effort, Dennis Bailey had several key runs and Andrew Warren made some big plays. Overall the team was down on two separate occassions and fought back each time. They never gave up and won with class!
